Yeah!!!! Surgery went great today. We had to be at the surgery center at 7:00 this morning to sign in for Joey's frenulumectmy (they clipped the little connector under his tongue). I was a nervous wreck and Joey was just as sweet as can be.
There of course were candy machines in the waiting room so all Joey could think about was getting candy when he was done. : ) Finally a little before 8 they called us back to the pre-op area. They gave him the cutest little hospital gown to wear, he thought they were kidding when they told him he had to change clothes. Our pre-op room was very cute with a great mural of wild safari animals, Joey's favorite, and a TV with video games. They were definitely prepared for children. The nurses were wonderful, the doctors were great. But every second was horrible for this mommy. The anticipation was the worst, or almost the worst.
We thought we would be able to go back while they put him under but that didn't happen. When it was time for him to go back he tried to crawl out of the bed and started crying for me. That was the hardest. It was heartbreaking to see someone take your child away and not be able to do anything to stop it.
But within what seemed like only minutes they called us back and he was sitting up picking out a popcicle (red of course!). They monitored him for a while, and he was pretty wobbly when it was time to go, but he is just as perfect as ever.
We hope that within a couple of weeks his speech will begin to improve, and for me this memory can fade to the background to make way for much happier things. Like, the circus party!!!

Surgery day is tomorrow
Tomorrow Joey is going to be going in to have his tongue clipped. We haven't told him yet because at 4 the concept of surgery seems to be a little overwhelming. It certainly is overwhelming to me.
I know that there is much worse that could be wrong with the booger, but the idea of anesthesia scares the poop out of me! The surgery itself is only going to be about 15 minutes so nothing major, but still, poop buddy.
I am also kind of sad, because I think the way he talks is so sweet. It is what makes him uniquely Joey. I know in the long run it would be a hinderance, but it is just one of the many things I find so special about him.
Zach gets that look in his eye as soon as he discovers something new. It is an amazing thing to watch his face light up.
Matt curls up his little lip to pout and just melts your heart.
And when Joey gets excited he talks so fast you can't understand a word of anything he is saying.
They all have such wonderfully unique qualities, only one of which I listed for each, but the idea of Joey losing one of them that I associate as being uniquely his, is in a way a sad day for this mom.
I know, I know he has to have it done to improve his speech, and it is very exciting to think of all of the words he will now be able to say! So a big day for all of us tomorrow!

Not Me Mondays
I have recently started following MckMama's blog . Read up on her amazing journey-be careful-its addiciting! Anyway, she began sharing her "not-me's" and has decided to make a weekly event of it. She has challenged her followers to do the same! But what is a "not-me" you ask?
Well, here is an example or 2, (I say examples, because I would not do these things, not me!!):
"I did NOT skip going to the grocery store last night because I was too tired knowing full well if I went tonight it meant I wouldn't have to go to football practice and that Joey loves watching his brother practice so much that I would get to go to the store all alone and Mike would have to watch the kids for two hours" Nope, not me.
"I did NOT stay out too late on Saturday night, and have 1 to many glasses of wine while out to dinner with friends. I did not then tell my mother I couldn't paint a bathroom with her on Sunday, just so that I wouldn't have to see the disappointed look (yes still in my 30's I do everything I can to avoid the dreaded look of disappoinment) when she could have plainly seen what I look like with to little sleep and to much wine at 10 in the morning." Nope, not me. I would never tell a lie.
"I did NOT tell my husband that we were having a pony at Joey's birthday party, to then tell him a day later that we were also having a jump castle, and then a day after that "remind" him of the balloon artist and face painter. I did NOT purposefully forget to tell him about getting a clown to come for a couple of hours, too." Nope, not me.
"I did NOT tell my husband that the spaghetti dinner for the football team, that we are hosting at our house on Friday night, had only 22 RSVP's last week, knowing that at least 25 more people had RSVPd over the weekend. " Nope, not me.
Things like that, that's what posting about on "Not Me Monday", is. So, if you're so inclined, join in the "Not Me Monday" carnival by clicking the orange button to the right to read everyones "not-me's", maybe you'll even decide to join in the fun and play by leaving your own "not-me's" here in my comment section!

Birthday Time!!!
Today my sweet boy is turning 4!!!!!! Happy Birthday JoeBird! I can't believe that he is already 4! For our immediate celebration we will attending the always fun CHUCK E. CHEESE for dinner. I am as excited as they are to kick butt at skee-ball. Who doesn't love a good game of skee-ball!
We are still in the process of finalizing the out of control circus party on Oct. 4th. I have gone into mommy overdrive with this one. I just couldn't help myself. It started as a pony party, so I hired a pony to come give rides at the party. Well the pony comes with an additional horse, face painting and balloon animals!!!!! Then I was able to get a great jump castle with a giant slide for a very reasonable price (at least I think it is, Mike is not necessarily in agreement!). So we decided since the planning was a circus we should make it a Circus Party! So we had to add a cotton candy machine and popcorn machine for a complete atmosphere!
So now my sweet baby wants a clown. What is a circus without a clown? I just can't stop myself from the madness. It is definitely going to be one of the best parties I have thrown, and I think I am more excited than he is!!

Competition
This weekend Zach had his 2nd football game of the season. The 1st one last week, was so fun!! They won by 4 touchdowns and just played great. It is so fun to watch your children win and be good at something.
This weekend they were not so lucky. Poor buddies lost 48 - 17. Not a good way to go down. Why is it that I feel like I lost. I was exhausted and cranky after the game, as if I had been playing football for 3 hours in the hot sun. But no, I was sitting on the sideline enjoying funnel cake and a Pepsi. But yet I was the one bummed out. Don't get me wrong, my son loves to win. He is one of the most competitive children I know. He turns everything into a game, unfortunately I think it got this from me. Everything tends to be win or lose, who got it first, whose is best, etc....
In some ways I feel like we gave him an early advantage in the world, focusing on competition. After all grownups are constantly competing with one another, whether it be for a new job, a spouse, and even those crazy ones that still compete in athletic competitions. But on the other hand, I don't want him to feel that if he doesn't win at something, then he is not good at it. For goodness sakes, he has so many years to win and grow, and learn.
So how much competition is to much? Where is the line between a healthy competitive spirit and obnoxiousness?

Busy, Busy, Busy
Today is the 1st day in a very long time that we don't have anything going on tonight. Besides of course the usual: dinner, baths, homework, cleaning up the house, etc. But no one has to be anywhere tonight. No football, no meetings, no family functions, no dinner plans, Nothing, nada, zilch!! After I pick up the littles from school, I am stopping at the liquor store and buying a bottle of wine. Mmmmm. We are having tacos for dinner, something everyone will actually eat and then I am taking an hour to catch up on my DVR and enjoy my wine. Then of course it will be bath time and story time and homework time and all of those other duties that we moms most contend with. But for the 1st time in a very long time I get to set the schedule, and tonight we are doing it mommys way!
The beginning of my blog!
I am not really sure why I have decided to blog. I hear all kinds of great things like - it is a scrapbook of your life, no need for a baby book, a great way to vent all of your frustrations, etc.... So we will see where this blog takes me, it may only last a few days or hopefully it will be a place I can look back on and remember this time in my life. And so it begins....
